1-Day River Crossing Course

Essential River Safety Skills for the New Zealand Backcountry

Rivers are one of the most serious and underestimated hazards in New Zealand’s outdoors—claiming several lives each year. Our 1-day River Crossing Course is designed to give trampers, hikers, and outdoor professionals the critical skills and decision-making tools needed to safely assess and cross rivers in dynamic and challenging environments.

Led by experienced instructors and delivered near Arthur’s Pass, this hands-on course provides practical training in river safety, hazard identification, and crossing techniques—empowering you with the knowledge to make safe decisions before stepping into fast-moving water.

Whether you're planning a multi-day backcountry tramp, pursuing NZOIA Bush qualifications, or simply wanting to stay safe in the hills, this course is a must for anyone heading into New Zealand’s remote terrain.
